Joint Security Operation in Diwaniyah Targets Corruption, Officials Arrested
Ahmad Saqr Bashat, head of the Integrity Committee in the Diwaniyah Provincial Council, announced that on Friday a broad security operation was carried out by the National Security Agency and the Falcons Intelligence Cell, in coordination with the Federal Integrity Commission.
During the operation, several officials from the Diwaniyah municipality and a number of contractors were arrested on corruption charges.
Seizure of Documents and Contracts
At the time of the arrests, security forces seized a collection of official contracts and documents. These materials are believed to be property of the Diwaniyah municipality that had been unlawfully appropriated and used for personal gain by the suspects.
Basis of the Investigation
The Integrity Committee chief noted that the operation followed the collection of detailed intelligence and the exposure of several corruption files. The campaign aimed to put an end to administrative and financial violations within the municipal offices.
Ongoing Legal Procedures
Investigations with the detainees are continuing to uncover full details and identify additional aspects of the corruption network. Once preliminary procedures are completed, all those arrested will be referred to a specialized court to face legal accountability.
