Kuwait has announced that the Abdaly border crossing with Iraq will reopen within the next 48 hours, restoring commercial transport and civilian travel after a temporary closure caused by a drone attack near the border.

Border Crossing to Resume Operations

Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Sheikh Fahad Yousuf al-Sabah, announced the decision during an official visit to Basra.

The crossing was temporarily closed following a drone attack near the border area on July 23. Speaking at a joint press conference with Basra Governor Asaad al-Eidani, Sheikh Fahad said the reopening is intended to restore border traffic, facilitate trade, and reaffirm the strong diplomatic ties between Kuwait and Iraq.

Sheikh Fahad stated that relations between Iraq and Kuwait are strong, and no party can disrupt them, adding that the crossing will once again receive travelers and commercial trucks in both directions.

Basra Governor Asaad al-Eidani welcomed the Kuwaiti delegation at the Safwan border crossing and stressed that both governments remain committed to strengthening joint security coordination, promoting regional stability, and expanding economic cooperation.
