Global spot gold prices climbed to a seven-week high of $4,266 per ounce, extending gains for a fourth consecutive trading session as a weaker U.S. dollar, lower Treasury yields, and easing geopolitical tensions boosted demand for the precious metal.

Key Statements and Focus Area

  • Gold reached $4,266 per ounce, marking its highest level in seven weeks.
  • Expectations for a September U.S. Federal Reserve interest rate hike eased from 67% to 55%.
  • Investors are closely watching Friday's U.S. nonfarm payrolls report for further market direction.

Global spot gold prices rose for a fourth consecutive trading session, reaching $4,266 per ounce, their highest level in seven weeks.

The rally was driven by a decline in the US Dollar Index (DXY), lower US Treasury bond yields, and growing expectations that the Federal Reserve may take a less aggressive approach to interest rates.

The US Dollar Index fell below the 100 mark, while yields on 10-year US Treasury bonds also declined, making non-yielding assets such as gold more attractive to investors.

At the same time, market expectations for a Federal Reserve interest rate increase at its September meeting fell from 67% to 55% following signs of a cooling US labor market.

The latest ADP National Employment Report showed that private-sector job growth slowed in July, reinforcing expectations that policymakers may adopt a more cautious stance.

A weaker US dollar also reduced the cost of dollar-denominated gold for overseas buyers, supporting global demand.

Regional and Iranian sources indicated that Oman is facilitating intensive diplomatic efforts to resolve the five-month military standoff between the United States and Iran.

Under the reported framework, Iran would regulate vessels entering the Persian Gulf, raising expectations that the Strait of Hormuz could fully reopen and improve stability along one of the world's most important energy shipping routes.

Investors are now turning their attention to Friday's official US nonfarm payrolls (NFP) report, which is expected to provide further insight into the strength of the US labor market and influence expectations for future Federal Reserve policy.

The employment data is widely viewed as the next major indicator that could shape the longer-term direction of gold prices.

FYI

Gold is widely regarded as a safe-haven asset during periods of economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, or expectations of lower interest rates. While easing regional tensions have improved overall market sentiment, investors continue to balance geopolitical developments with incoming U.S. economic data, particularly labor market indicators and Federal Reserve policy expectations, when assessing the outlook for precious metals.
