The Director of the Baghdad Municipality Police was killed and four other security personnel were injured during an anti-encroachment campaign.

The Iraqi Interior Ministry stated, “With deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn the martyrdom of an officer holding the rank of Brigadier General and a member of the Baghdad Karkh Police force, as well as the injury of four other personnel from the Federal Police and Baghdad Karkh Police Commandos.”

“We have directed the formation of an urgent security and intelligence task force to investigate the circumstances of the incident,” the ministry announced.

Hussein al-Awadi, Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, said in a statement on Thursday that the incident took place “while they were performing their duties during an anti-encroachment campaign to remove illegal structures in the Dora area of Baghdad.”

Al-Awadi emphasized that the security forces' sacrifice while enforcing the law and maintaining public order reflects the ultimate devotion to the nation and its citizens.

The ministry vowed to work with full force to track down, arrest, and bring the perpetrators to justice to face their fair punishment under the law.

“The blood of our martyrs will not be in vain,” al-Awadi emphasized, adding that the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the law and protecting citizens alongside public and private property.

“On this painful occasion, we extend our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to the families and colleagues of the two martyrs. We pray to Almighty God to grant them His vast mercy, dwell them in His spacious gardens, and grant the injured a speedy recovery,” he added.
