The spokesperson of the Chinese Consulate General in Erbil issued a statement regarding the fate of the student studying in the country, saying that on the late night of September 8, the Consulate General learned that Hadi had drowned in China.

The spokesperson emphasized that the Consulate General is treating the matter with the utmost urgency, having immediately contacted relevant Chinese authorities to ascertain the full details of the incident.

According to the consulate, local public security authorities and the university have swiftly formed a dedicated task force to conduct a lawful and procedural investigation into the incident.

The spokesperson affirmed that additional details will be made public immediately upon the conclusion of the ongoing inquiry.

“During the investigation, we call on the media to fully respect the privacy of the deceased and his family and refrain from disseminating unverified speculations,” the statement added.

The Chinese Consulate General “stands ready to provide all necessary humanitarian assistance to the family of the deceased for their travel to China to deal with the aftermath of this incident.”

During a meeting with Chinese Consul General Liu Jun yesterday, Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani requested an expedited investigation to clarify the cause of the student's death and urged the Chinese government to assist in repatriating his body to the Kurdistan Region.
