The Kurdistan Region Presidency issued a statement on Sunday regarding the missile attack on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport, offering its "deepest condolences, sympathy, and solidarity to the leadership, government, and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as to the families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery."

According to the statement, Iraq called for "a comprehensive cessation of military actions, shielding civilians and brotherly nations from their consequences and outcomes, and preventing civilian installations from being subjected to attacks and harm."

FYI

The recent ballistic missile strikes on King Khalid International Airport mark an escalation in cross-border violence following the collapse of the truce between the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and the Houthi movement.

The regional security environment deteriorated rapidly after pro-government forces initiated a major ground offensive along the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait, prompting the Houthi leadership to expand its targeting parameters into Saudi territory.

Consequently, the group designated Saudi Arabian airspace as an active operational zone, heavily prioritizing transportation hubs and energy infrastructure in response to ongoing coalition airstrikes in Yemen.

The aerial campaign directly impacted Riyadh’s primary aviation facility through successive missile operations. An initial strike resulted in three fatalities, including a commercial airline pilot, and caused substantial damage to a stationary aircraft on the tarmac.

Hostilities peaked when a subsequent ballistic missile struck the passenger terminal complex, directly affecting Terminals 3 and 4.

The detonation resulted in 12 fatalities and left 309 individuals injured, with casualties spanning multiple nationalities including Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan.
