Member of the Political Bureau of the Iraqi Turkmen Front Aydin Maruf said on Saturday that Turkmens will partake in the Kurdistan parliamentary elections with a list beyond the quota system.

June 10, 2024, has been designated as the date for the sixth term of parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region.

Maruf, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of State for Minority Affairs, said in a press conference that the decision of the Federal Court was aimed to strike the entity of the Kurdistan Region.

He said that regardless of the presence of a quota system, they would participate in the elections and have a list.

“As the Turkmen Front, we urge all Turkmen political parties to unite and participate in the elections with a single list,” said Maruf.

Maruf further added that they would participate in the elections regardless.

On February 21, the Iraqi Federal Court declared the allocation of 11 seats reserved for religious and ethnic minorities in the Kurdistan Parliament as “unconstitutional.”
