UK mental health charity raises outreach to boys suffering in silence

Mental health charity TIC+ in the UK is reaching out to teen boys and young men suffering from mental health issues, noting that only 30 percent of the people who access their services are male.

The charity, which operates in disadvantaged areas of Gloucester, is focusing on males aged nine to 25, who they believe are suffering in silence, the BBC said.

TIC+ believes there may be a stigma that keeps men and boys from accessing their services, or that they simply do not know the group exists.

The group wants to raise mental health provision in disadvantaged areas to reduce self-harm and suicidal thoughts in young men.

The service is free and can be offered online, even by text.

The effects of social media have also been highlighted as a cause of concern for young people, with some accusing Facebook and Instagram of misleading the public about the risks of social media use and adding to a mental health crisis among youth.
