Rising suicide cases among doctors in Iran spark concerns

The social consultant of the Medical System Organization in Iran raised alarms about the increase in suicide cases among doctors in the country.

Seyed Mohammad Mirkhani, the Social Advisor of the Organization of the Medical System of Iran, noted that the suicide rate among doctors has reached a concerning level, with indications that the trend may surpass that seen in other countries soon.

Attributing the situation to years of mismanagement in Iranian medicine, Mirkhani highlighted factors such as strenuous workloads, intense patient interactions, and challenging hospital environments as key contributors to doctor suicides.

The grueling night shifts lasting up to 72 hours have been identified as adversely affecting doctors’ mental well-being.
