KRG Deputy PM stresses continuity on $78M Goptapa-Chamchamal water project

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani visited the Goptapa-Chamchamal water project, emphasizing that “Work on the project should not stop for any reason.”

Allocated over $78 million, the project is set to be completed within 730 days and will produce 3,400 cubic meters of drinking water per hour, benefiting more than 480,000 people.

In a statement, the Deputy Prime Minister’s office noted that Planning Minister Dara Rashid accompanied Talabani during the visit.

Talabani highlighted the longstanding water issues faced by Chamchamal residents and their anticipation for this project’s completion.

He urged the implementing company to adhere to the timeline, stressing that it is the primary demand and right of the Chamchamal residents.

Earlier, Chamchamal Governor Ramk Ramazan discussed the visit with Channel 8, detailing the preparation of three lists for the Deputy Prime Minister: initiating work on 17 suspended projects, proposing 70 new projects, and addressing various sectoral demands from districts and administrative units.

Ramazan further mentioned that from 2017 to the end of 2023, projects worth 30 billion dinars and two million dollars in the electricity sector have been implemented. He emphasized the need for 150 billion dinars to complete suspended and new projects, indicating ongoing discussions with Talabani to prioritize and decide on these initiatives.
