Religious carnivals began this morning in the major cities of Kurdistan Region, where thousands of citizens gathered around major mosques to take part in Mawlid recitations and various activities.

The occasion, which falls on the 12th of Rabi' al-Awwal, is being observed across major cities with religious services and public gatherings.

In Slemani, the main ceremony began at 10:00 AM at the Grand Mosque, attended by the Deputy Minister of Endowment and Religious Affairs.

Takya Kasnazani and Khanaqa in the city act as two major centers welcoming citizens for prayers.

A large-scale religious carnival is also taking place in the Erbil city center with widespread public participation.

In Duhok, special meals have been prepared at the Haji Abdullah Sofi Mosque, and sweets are being distributed to participants.

The Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider Islamic world observe an official public holiday today for the 12th of Rabi' al-Awwal (Mawlid). 

The birth anniversary of the Prophet is commemorated throughout cities in the Region with the distribution of traditional confectionery and communal meals.
