The group is originally from Kobani and had been attempting to return to Western Kurdistan after entering Iran legally from an Arab country.

While attempting to re-enter the Kurdistan Region, the travelers moved through a mountainous section of the border area where landmines posed a serious danger.

Several members suffered leg injuries while crossing the difficult terrain. The travelers had also exhausted their food and water supplies before seeking assistance. They are currently staying at the Haji Omaran border post while the relevant authorities process their cases.
