ISIS attacked Yazidi civilians in Shingal and surrounding areas on August 3, 2014, killing and forcibly disappearing thousands of people. Approximately 550,000 Yazidis were displaced from the region following the attacks.
Estimates of the number of Yazidis killed or missing vary. Official and reported figures put the number of deaths between 2,100 and 4,400, while between 4,200 and 10,800 people were abducted.
