Key Statements and Focus Area

  • In a statement obtained by Channel8, National Bank announced that employees within the general directorates of the Ministry of Finance and Economy may now submit transfer requests to work at its commercial branches.
  • The recruitment drive seeks section heads and staff members across the provinces of Erbil, Slemani, Duhok, and Halabja, as well as the independent administrations of Zakho, Soran, Garmian, and Raparin.

According to the bank's requirements, eligible Ministry of Finance employees must submit their transfer applications between the 18th and 22nd of this month.

Applicants are required to fulfill a specific set of pre-determined criteria to be considered for these roles.

FYI

This transition coincides with a major initiative to consolidate 94 public banks across the Kurdistan Region.

A limited number of branches will continue operating until all financial accounts and accounting units are fully reorganized and integrated under National Bank.

Following this restructuring, the Bank will become the fourth financial institution in Iraq to be officially recognized by the Central Bank of Iraq—joining Rasheed, Rafidain, and TBI—granting it full authority to issue public advances and access U.S. dollars at the official government rate.

As part of the regional integration plan, central Slemani will reduce its operational hubs to just four remaining banks (Bakhan, Azmar, Slemani, and Tanjaro) while border outposts like Bashmakh and Parwezkhan will temporarily persist to accommodate localized trade and retirement distribution networks.

The committee faces a massive administrative hurdle in auditing and transferring up to 95,000 individual citizen account profiles alongside approximately 100 billion Iraqi dinars in outstanding commercial loans before the new network can fully launch.

Financial authorities estimate the restructuring has created roughly 1,000 surplus employees, forcing the Ministry of Finance and Economy to design qualification-based placement plans and voluntary transfer paths to other government institutions.
