FYI
The Iraq–Turkey relationship centers on economic cooperation, infrastructure development, water management, and border security.
A primary anchor of bilateral ties is the Development Road Project, a mega-infrastructure corridor designed to link Iraq’s southern ports directly to the Turkish border via a major rail and highway network.
Additionally, the two nations utilize an institutional fund where a portion of Iraqi oil export revenues is directed to Turkish contractors tasked with upgrading Iraq's agricultural irrigation systems and water infrastructure.
On security, cooperation has grown more formalized through joint security committees and a framework military agreement targeting common regional threats and border stability.
This includes structured dialogue regarding the activities of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) along the shared border.
Energy relations remain crucial, managed through ongoing negotiations regarding the Kirkuk–Ceyhan oil pipeline and joint energy initiatives involving Turkish public corporations and Iraqi authorities.
