Project is in Implementation Phase
The Tanjaro environmental rescue project is moving into the implementation stage after two international organizations expressed readiness to provide the required funding.
Shaho Osman, Deputy Governor of Slemani, said efforts to advance solutions and launch environmental projects intensified following the visit of Iraq's Environment Minister, Srwa Abdulwahid, to the city.
According to Osman, the first phase of the project includes the installation of three sewage treatment units at three separate locations.
The facilities will scientifically treat wastewater from Tanjaro before it is released toward central and southern Iraq, with the aim of reducing its environmental impact.
The Slemani Governorate said it is fully prepared to facilitate the implementation of the internationally supported project.
Meanwhile, Environment Minister Srwa Abdulwahid stressed the need to develop a new, modern master plan for the project. Discussions on the plan are ongoing, with authorities aiming to begin field operations in Tanjaro in the near future.

Tanjaro, on the southern outskirts of Slemani, has long been one of the Region's most significant environmental challenges due to untreated wastewater and industrial pollution flowing through the area.
On June 1st, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Qubad Talabani, together with Iraqi Environment Minister Nizar Mohammed Saeed Amidi and a delegation from the World Food Programme (WFP), visited the Tanjao area to address waste and garbage issues and improve water quality in the Tanjao River.
Taha Hussein, supervisor of the Petroleum Products Complex project, said construction of the new facility began one month ago. Located outside Slemani and away from residential areas, the complex is expected to accommodate all fuel storage and distribution sites currently operating in Tanjaro within the next six months.
