Turkey announced on Friday its removal from the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) watch list for money laundering and terrorism financing.
“Thanks to the effective measures we’ve implemented, Turkey has been removed from the grey list,” stated the economy ministry following the FATF’s decision at a meeting in Singapore.
Turkey was placed on the list in October 2021 due to its inadequate efforts in combating money laundering and terrorism funding, a decision Ankara had criticized as “unfair.”
The FATF confirmed Turkey’s removal from the list, acknowledging the country’s “significant progress” in addressing these issues.
“We’ve done it!” Economy Minister Mehmet Simsek celebrated on X, formerly Twitter.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya assured that Turkey would “resolutely continue” its efforts against organized crime, which has seen a rise across the country in recent months.
