Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, has called upon the United Nations to intervene and prevent potential mass atrocities by the Israeli regime in the city of Rafah, located in the southern Gaza Strip.

In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Amir-Abdollahian expressed grave concern about Israel’s proposed full-scale ground invasion of Rafah, warning of the devastating impact it could have on the 1.5 million Palestinian residents, many of whom are already displaced and struggling to survive in the besieged city.

According to the Iranian Foreign Minister, a military offensive on Rafah would only worsen the plight of the Palestinians and contribute to what he described as the ongoing Israeli genocide against the Palestinian people.

“It is imperative that the United Nations system fulfill its responsibilities in this critical juncture and avert further mass atrocities against the Palestinians who have taken refuge in Rafah,” the top Iranian diplomat emphasized.

Amir-Abdollahian stressed that the responsibility lies with the United Nations and its member states to unite in demanding an immediate and permanent cessation of violence against Palestinians, as well as to ensure unimpeded access to humanitarian assistance for those in need.

He reiterated that all countries have a legal and moral obligation to prevent Israel’s aggressive actions against the Palestinian people and called for a coordinated effort to hold the Israeli regime accountable for its violations of international law.

The Iranian Foreign Minister underlined the necessity for the UN to urge member states to refrain from collaborating with the Israeli occupying forces, warning that any form of cooperation would implicate them in the perpetration of grave crimes and result in international consequences.

The message is clear: the international community must stand against injustice and protect the rights and lives of the Palestinian people in the face of escalating aggression.
