On Wednesday, the US urged the International Court of Justice (ICJ) not to order the unconditional withdrawal of Israeli forces from Palestinian lands.

The ICJ is hearing arguments on the legality of the Israeli occupation from 52 countries.

The US said a call for Israel to withdraw from Palestine must take into account Israel’s security needs.

The US representative at the ICJ said Washington is working to achieve a peace resolution and to pave the way for the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The UN General Assembly asked in 2022 for the ICJ to issue a non-binding verdict on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian Territories.

Israel is not taking part in the proceedings, and the court’s involvement could be harmful to a negotiated settlement.

The Israeli parliament on Wednesday declared its opposition to the unilateral creation of a Palestinian state.

Sixty-seven Palestinians were killed overnight on Wednesday in Israeli strikes continuing across Gaza.

At least 29,313 Palestinians have been killed and 69,333 wounded since the war began in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
