At dawn on Sunday, an Israeli airstrike targeted a truck near the Syrian-Lebanese border, resulting in the deaths of two Hezbollah members, according to reports from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The strike, which the Observatory described as hitting a civilian vehicle, was not reported by Syrian state media.

Hezbollah later confirmed the deaths, stating that the fighters were “martyred on the road to Jerusalem,” a phrase commonly used by the group to denote casualties from Israeli attacks.

Israeli airstrikes in Syria have been frequent since the start of the civil war in 2011, often targeting pro-Iranian forces including Hezbollah and the Syrian army.

The recent escalation comes amid heightened tensions due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

This strike follows previous incidents, including an attack on a Damascus neighborhood that killed three Iran-backed fighters.

Hezbollah has reported a total of 16 members killed in Israeli strikes in Syria since the start of the Gaza conflict on October 7th.
