During a visit to Halabja city, Kermanshah Governor Mohammad Tayeb Sahrawi said on Saturday that his country does not object to the opening of the Sazan border crossing between Iran and the Kurdistan Region.

“The opening of the Sazan border crossing between Halabja and Iran relies on the approval of the Iraqi government,” Sahrawi said.

“We’ve addressed tourism activity between Halabja and Kermanshah, reaching an understanding, and a committee has been formed to implement it,” he added.

During a press conference alongside Halabja Governor Azad Tofiq, Sahrawi said that the people of Kermanshah hold affection for the people of Halabja, attributing this sentiment to the solidarity arising from the chemical attack on Halabja.

“We want to enhance relations in various sectors including economy, trade, agriculture, customs, and tourism,” he said.

According to the governor, both the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Islamic Republic of Iran have no objections to the opening of the border crossing, but the decision to open border crossings in Iraq rests with the federal government, and they should be the one to decide on the matter.
