Iraqi Sunni leader warns of danger amid KDP election boycott

Leader of the Siyada Coalition Khamis Khanjar.

Leader of the Siyada Coalition Khamis Khanjar said that the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) decision to boycott the elections and its intention to withdraw from the political process puts the country in danger.

“The boycott of the elections by our brothers in the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and mentioning withdrawal from the political process will endanger the future of the entire country,” Khanjar wrote on X.

Khanjar, a Sunni leader and former head of the Azem coalition, emphasized that dialogue between Baghdad and Erbil, with the participation of all partners, is the sole pathway to resolving political issues.

He believes that the KDP is “a major pillar of political life in Iraq”.

The KDP said in a statement on Monday that it will not participate in illegal and unconstitutional elections under an imposed system.
