Iraq nears extradition of corruption convicts from Syria, Jordan, Belarus

Head of the Iraqi Integrity Commission Haidar Hanoun said that Iraq is nearing the extradition of three corruption convicts apprehended in Syria, Jordan, and Belarus.

“We are currently focused on repatriating Isam Muafaq Jassim, a convict involved in the embezzlement of 750 million Iraqi dinars from Rashid Bank’s Maysan University branch. Jassim has been sentenced to 10 years in absentia,” Judge Haider Hanoun said in a press conference.

“The second convict detained in Belarus, known as Jinan Jawad Abd Ali Qaisi, has been linked to the embezzlement of 6.5 billion Iraqi dinars. During his employment at the Ministry of Health in 2008, he orchestrated multiple fictitious contracts using false identities. He has been sentenced to seven in prison,” he said.

“The third one, Saif Abd Khalifa, was arrested in Jordan and sentenced to seven years of imprisonment by an Iraqi court,” he added.

Haider Hanoun said the following the completion of legal procedures, the three convicts will be extradited to Iraq by their respective countries
