Death toll from Duhok floods rises to three

Another citizen died in floods in Duhok province, the Civil Defense Directorate told Channel8 on Tuesday.

Directorate spokesman Bewar Abdulaziz said the death toll from the floods has increased to three.

Eleven people were injured and 120 rescued, while 150 houses and 50 vehicles were damaged, the directorate said.

Heavy rains in the Kurdistan Region caused floods in many parts of the province.

The governor of Duhok province has declared an official day off on Wednesday due to the floods.

Duhok Governor Ali Tatar said offices will be closed in the province due to the unstable weather and he has asked citizens to stay home.

The day off does not include service offices such as civil defense, the police, security, immigration, hospitals, and municipalities.

Bafel Talabani, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) issued a message of condolence to the families of the three victims of flooding in Duhok.

“Our hearts are with the people of all Kurdistan’s cities and towns affected by the floods, especially beloved Duhok,” Talabani said.

The PUK president expressed his readiness to provide all assistance and support to the citizens of the Kurdistan Region and affected areas and thanked all parties concerned for their tireless service.
