PM Sudani: Baghdad to deliver flood relief to Duhok

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Wednesday ordered the relevant authorities to provide necessary assistance to flood victims in Duhok.

The Joint Operations Command said in a statement that the Operations Command and the Crisis and Disaster Center of the Ministry of Interior have been instructed to provide all necessary support and assistance to the Kurdistan Region.

“The Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, Major-General Qais al-Mohamadawi, contacted the government and administrative authorities and security agencies in the Kurdistan Region in order to determine the priorities and mechanisms to provide emergency assistance to those affected by the floods,” the statement said.

Duhok’s Operations and Crisis Management Chamber reported three individuals lost their lives, 11 sustained injuries, and 120 were successfully rescued following severe floods in Duhok province.

Temporary accommodation in hotels and motels was arranged for 627 people, while 160 houses suffered damage.

The crisis management chamber said 50 vehicles were also affected by the flooding in Duhok. Furthermore, the Duhok Meteorological and Seismological Directorate noted that Duhok city received 133 mm of rainfall between 9 am and 9 pm on Tuesday.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) declared Wednesday a day-off in Erbil and Duhok provinces due to the heavy rains experienced since Monday.
