KRG PM Barzani meets with US National Security Advisor and Brett McGurk

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani meets with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and White House Coordinator for Middle East and North Africa Affairs Brett McGurk at the White House.

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and White House Coordinator for Middle East and North Africa Affairs Brett McGurk at the White House. 

According to the prime minister’s media office, during Barzani’s meeting with Sullivan, the latter conveyed President Joe Biden’s greetings and respect to Barzani. Sullivan also reaffirmed the White House’s support for the Kurdistan Region and its nation’s constitutional rights.

The advisor also “praised the courage, struggle, and sacrifices of the Peshmerga, particularly in the fight against ISIS terrorists, and emphasized the importance of protecting the security of the Kurdistan Region and ensuring the allocation of the Region’s budget share and financial entitlements,” as per the statement.

“The prime minister thanked the United States for its support and emphasized that the constitutional structure of the Kurdistan Region should be respected, and the rights of the Kurdish communities should be protected and not violated,” the statement added.

The media office announced the meeting between Masrour Barzani and Brett McGough in another statement.

According to the statement, during the meeting, the officials exchanged views on the latest developments in Iraq and the region, as well as the advancement of bilateral relations.

“The two sides agreed on the importance of upholding security and stability in the Kurdistan Region, as well as respecting the constitutional and federal structure of the Region and safeguarding the rights of communities,” the statement said.
